AESTHETIC
Modern Vintage Badge-style Narrative
THE BRIEF
The Quesnel and District Heritage Association is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rich history of the Quesnel and District region for future generations. Since the 1980s, their Antique Machinery Park and Museum has showcased restored machinery, historical artifacts, and a working sawmill—all celebrating the area's industrial heritage. Looking to grow their audience and strengthen community engagement, the association sought a refreshed, modern logo that would resonate with longtime supporters while appealing to a new generation of visitors.
THE SOLUTION
Our approach was to develop a brand identity that balances timeless heritage with contemporary clarity. The new badge-style logo incorporates minimalist symbols representing the region’s foundational industries—forestry, mining, and agriculture—creating a visual language that feels both historical and modern. This blend of vintage character and clean design results in a versatile, welcoming identity that proudly reflects the story of British Columbia’s Cariboo region while remaining relevant to today’s audience.Â
UNUSED LOGO VARIATION
The tote bag, t-shirt, and hoodie mockups feature an early logo concept explored during the design process. This version incorporated tree imagery as a subtle nod to sustainability, paired with a handsaw and woodgrain cross-section that formed a sun-on-the-horizon motif—symbolizing industry, landscape, and renewal. Although the client ultimately selected a direction without the trees and antique two-man crosscut saw, this alternative remains a strong interpretation of their heritage-focused identity. It’s included here to highlight the creative development process and the range of visual directions considered.
