The Brief
The Quesnel and District Heritage Association is a volunteer-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rich history of the Quesnel and District region for future generations. Since the 1980s, their Antique Machinery Park and Museum has showcased restored machinery, historical artifacts, and a working sawmill—all celebrating the area's industrial heritage. With an eye toward growth and engagement, the association sought a refreshed, more modern logo that would resonate with both longtime supporters and a new generation of visitors.
The Solution
The new brand design blends timeless and modern elements to create a look that honours the past while appealing to today’s audience. Centered around a classic badge-style logo, the design incorporates minimalist symbols of key regional industries—forestry, mining, and agriculture. This approach provides a vintage feel rooted in heritage, balanced with a clean, contemporary aesthetic. The result is a versatile and welcoming visual identity that bridges generations and helps tell the story of British Columbia’s Cariboo region.
Unused Logo Variation
The tote bag, t-shirt and hoodie mockups feature early logo concepts that were part of the initial design exploration. I felt the trees offered a subtle nod to sustainability, while the handsaw and woodgrain cross-section suggested a sun-on-the-horizon motif—symbolizing both industry and renewal. While the client ultimately chose a variation that excluded the trees and antique two-man crosscut saw, this version remains a strong representation of the brand’s heritage-focused identity. It’s included here to highlight the development process and the range of creative directions explored.
